By September, over 17 million vaccine doses will have arrived in Sri Lanka.
From July through September, an additional 17 million doses of vaccines, including Sinopharm, Sinovac, and Sputnik V, are slated to arrive in the country, according to the President's Media Division.
This was revealed this morning at the Presidential Secretariat during a meeting with the Special Committee on COVID-19 Control (25).
Meanwhile, the PMD stated that the World Bank applauds Sri Lanka's approach to the Covid-19 vaccine procurement procedure.
Dr. Prasanna Gunasena, Chairman of the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation (SPC), stated the World Bank has recognized the SPC as the leading organization in terms of transparency when acquiring vaccines when compared to its peers in South Asian countries.
In acknowledgement of this, Dr. Gunasena stated that Sri Lanka will be able to make payments for vaccines through the World Bank website.
The President underlined the importance of developing a plan to get immunizations to more individuals around the country in a short amount of time.
Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya, President of the Government Medical Officers' Association, stated that the Director-General of Health Services will be presented with a proposal to execute the immunization program at selected hospitals. According to Dr. Padeniya, this will allow the public to acquire immunizations from those facilities at any time of the day on most days.
