The official website of the Prime Minister has been hijacked.

According to a representative for the Computer Emergency Readiness Team/Coordination Centre (CERT|CC), Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa's official website, www.mahindarajapaksa.lk, was hacked yesterday (June 2).

According to him, the internet domain (.lk) was hijacked and rerouted to a website called Bitcoin (, a decentralized digital currency).

When visiting the Premier's official website, it was routed to Bitcoin-related content and then to another web page.

Meanwhile, Rajiv Yasiru Kuruwitage, President of the Information Technology Society of Sri Lanka (ITSSL), claimed that cyber attackers needed an automatic method to download web content to PCs or mobile phones.

The CERT|CC, on the other hand, claims that the www.mahindarajapaksa.lk website has been restored.
