'The killer has been released free,' says Bharatha's wife.
The widow of former legislator Bharatha Premchandra took to social media today to express her displeasure with Duminda Silva's release following a presidential pardon.
Sumana Premachandra slammed the government's decision to release Silva, who was sentenced to life in jail in 2016 for the murder of Bharatha Premachandra.
"She stated," she said "The assailant has been released. The sun will not shine on a country that disregards the rule of law."
Sumana went on to say that Sri Lanka had evolved into a country that did not respect the judiciary by disregarding the High Court and Supreme Court justices' decisions.
She claimed that this injustice occurred on the auspicious day of 'Poson Poya.'
Silva exited the Welikada Prison a short time ago via the back entrance, presumably to evade the massive media contingent waiting for his release at the main entrance. (JAMILA HUSAIN )
