Soldiers in Eravur have been suspended for allegedly harassing the public.

On the orders of Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander General Shavendra Silva, some troops who were involved in an alleged harassment of a group of people in Eravur have been suspended.

After images of suspected harassment of a group of civilians in the Eravur district went viral, the Army confirmed an initial Military Police inquiry had already begun.

Soldiers in Eravur allegedly compelled persons who broke the travel ban to go down on their knees and raise their hands, according to reports.

The Army stated it would take the harshest disciplinary punishment against all errant Army soldiers when full investigations were completed.
