As Lambda spreads over more than 30 countries, Sri Lanka is on high alert.
The Lambda version of the coronavirus has been detected in 30 countries and may be resistant to current Covid vaccinations, putting Sri Lanka on high alert.
To protect oneself from Lambda and other Covid versions, health officials encouraged the public to take necessary precautions, including wearing face masks and maintaining social distance.
Dr. Sudarshani Fernandopulle, State Minister of COVID19 Control, informed the Daily Mirror that no new measures have been recommended as a result of the Lambda variation spreading in other nations. The public has been asked to closely follow the health recommendations currently in place, despite the fact that restrictions imposed as a result of the coronavirus were eased this week.
Dr. Hemantha Herath, Deputy Director of Health Services, said the health authorities are still gathering information on the Lambda variety.
To prevent the spread of any variety, he added it is critical that the people follow established health rules.
He claims that if the virus penetrates Sri Lanka, genomic sequencing will discover it.
According to sources, the Lambda variation, also known as C.37, was originally discovered in Peru in August 2020 and was being monitored as an alert for some time before receiving its new name.
According to foreign media sources, the variant had been found in over 30 nations or territories as of mid-June, with a particularly high incidence in South America. The alterations in the variation could boost its transmissibility or resistance to neutralizing antibodies, according to the World Health Organization.
“It makes no difference which variant it is. To prevent any spread, it is critical that the standard Covid health guidelines are followed,” Dr Herath told the Daily Mirror. (source Daily Mirror)
