According to Deputy Director-General of Health Services Dr Hemantha Herath, 14 new patients of the feared Indian variety known as Delta have been found in the country.

Patients have been found in Colombo, Galle, Matara, and Trincomalee, among other places.

After genetic sequencing was performed on 142 samples collected across the island, it was established that these patients were infected with the Delta strain.
