At the Indian consulate, a name board with no Sinhalese has been replaced.
Concerns were raised over the name board, especially since several Chinese enterprises had received similar criticism for not including Tamil on their name boards.
The name board of the Indian Consulate General in Jaffna was put 5 years ago, according to reliable sources.
According to Indian sources, the necessity for Sinhalese to be written on the name board was probably overlooked at the time because Tamils make up over 90% of the population in Jaffna.
One source, though, admitted that it was an oversight that needed to be corrected.
As a result, the name board has been updated to accommodate Sinhalese as well. (RUTNAM EASWARAN)
