Joe Lara, who played Tarzan in the movie, is one of seven people reported to have died in a plane crash into a Tennessee lake.
Investigators continued their search on Sunday for the bodies of seven people believed to have died in the crash of a small plane into a Tennessee lake the day before, including an actor who played Tarzan in a 1990s television series.
In a statement issued Sunday, Rutherford County Fire Rescue Capt. John Ingle said that recovery efforts at Percy Priest Lake near Smyrna were still underway. He also said that a half-mile-wide debris field in the lake was being investigated.
County officials identified the victims in a news release late Saturday as Brandon Hannah, Gwen S. Lara, William J. Lara, David L. Martin, Jennifer J. Martin, Jessica Walters and Jonathan Walters, all of Brentwood, Tennessee. Their names were released after family members had been notified.
In 1999, Gwen Shamblin Lara started the Remnant Fellowship Church in Brentwood and published a faith-based weight-loss book. Joe Lara, her husband of nearly three years, was a character actor in the television series "Tarzan: The Epic Adventures."
The Cessna C501 plane was flying from Smyrna Rutherford County Airport to Palm Beach International Airport when it crashed Saturday morning, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The plane's registration number was not made public by authorities.
Smyrna is located around 20 miles southeast of Nashville. Percy Priest Lake is a reservoir constructed by the J. Percy Priest Dam. It is a great area for boating and fishing.
“With dive crews in the water, we are strongly advising civilian boaters to keep away from the public safety boats,” Ingle added.
The National Transportation Safety Board had a lead investigator at the scene.(Chicago Tribune)
