Extending the island-wide travel ban: “No decision yet,” Army Commander said.

There has been no decision on whether or not to prolong the island-wide travel ban that has been imposed in the country.

General Shavendra Silva, the Army Commander, stated that no decision has been made to prolong the travel ban beyond June 7th.

He stated that the decision to extend the travel ban would be made after consulting with health professionals and other relevant agencies.

General Shavendra Silva stated that a decision on the travel restriction would be made in the following days, but as of this morning, no decision had been made.

From the 21st to the 28th of May, an islandwide travel restriction was imposed, but it was lifted on the 25th to allow the public to purchase essential goods.

Following that, the government announced that the travel ban would be extended until June 7th.

Even though the restriction was supposed to be lifted between the 31st of May and the 4th of June, it was later announced that the travel ban would remain in place until the 7th of June.
